2016-17 Season Predictions

Champions League 2016-17 season predictions
UEFA CL 2016-17 Predictions
New UEFA Champions League 2016-17 season is about to start so we are prepared to analyze this year’s 62nd edition of this elite European football competition. Can Real Madrid bring down a curse of winning competition two times in a row? Can PSG or Manchester City finally be contenders? Is there a team who can come out as a big surprise on Cardiff Millennium Stadium in June 2017? Can Blue Foxes from Leicester shock football world two times in a row and end up as the European champions? This and much more will be fully examined by our football betting experts. In the last twelve years we had winners from only 4 different countries, England, Spain, Germany and Italy, and we expect this year’s winner will again come from the mentioned leagues. Despite being 3rd favorite by the bookies we don’t expect Los Blancos defending the title. Neither team managed to do that in 25 years and there will be no exception this year. However we agree with bookies regarding main two favorites, Barcelona and Bayern. Barcelona and Bayern are both experienced European teams always prepared to challenge for the title. Both teams have already won the competition, they have 10 trophies, 5 each, and both teams won it in recent years, Barcelona two and Bayern four years ago. 5th contender by the bookies is Manchester City. Sheik Mansour took over the club in 2008 and spent more than £800m in players. Within that time period Citizens won the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup in England, but they have only managed a semi-final in the Champions League. However this year’s arrival of Pep Guardiola will be huge boost to the team so we back Man City as one of the potential contenders for the trophy. Above mentioned PSG along with our last year’s possible wild card Atletico Madrid will not rise to that expectation this year. We back Juventus and Dortmund to be potential dark horse surprises this year. We didn’t forget The Foxes. We don’t want to jinx or to provoke football Gods (nor bookies), but we are definitely sure Vardy and Co won’t win Champions League. (If you are a Foxes fan however odds on Leicester are 61,00). That being said let’s take a closer look at each of the eight groups.

Group A predictions – PSG, Arsenal, Basel and Ludogorets are placed in this very uneven group. PSG and Arsenal should pass the group stage easily. Gunners from London managed to do so every time since season 2000-01, and PSG under Emery but without Ibrahimović should also easily outcome Basel and Ludogorets. The Swiss and Bulgarian champions will play each other again like in season 2014-15, but Swiss team won’t manage to take 2nd place like back then so they will fight for Europa League spot and we predict Basel will take the third place and that Bulgarian best team will finish last in this group.

Group B predictions – Surely one of the most interesting groups in terms of team strength. Benfica, Napoli, Dynamo Kiev and Besiktas make the group of three league champions and Napoli as the runner-up behind Juventus. However we think Benfica will surely advance to the latter phase as they are experienced and very strong team. Dynamo Kiev and Napoli will fight for the second place. Napoli lost a lot with the sale of Higuain which could prove to be very risky peace of business in term of their possible advancement. Dynamo Kiev is also an experienced squad and their main advantage will be matches in Kiev where even stronger teams than Napoli often show their weaknesses. Besiktas is back to the Champions League but with the departure of Gomez, Tore and Sosa they are weaker than other three opponents so they will settle with the 4th place.

Group C predictions – Group that got probably most media attention after the draw as Pep Guardiola with Manchester City will travel to the Nou Camp. Barcelona and City are 2 of 3 teams we mentioned in introduction as possible winners and therefore it is quite easy to assume we are sure they will pass this group. However everybody must be aware of Die Fohlen. They had very strong group last year and played actually quite well after Schubert took over. They get better and better each year in Bundesliga and with the bit of luck for them and misery for the favorites they can be a surprise. Nevertheless it is more realistic they will finish in Europa League spot, and that The Boys from Glasgow will once again fail in doing anything competitive in Champions League and sadly only prove Scottish football is as far as it gets from it’s glory days.

Group D predictions - This is one of the easiest groups to predict who will advance to the knock-out phase as Bayern and Atletico Madrid are on quite a different level than the other two teams. Bayern now came to such a point where victory in the Champions League is the primary objective. The Bavarians therefore hired Carlo Ancelotti who won the tournament three times, and can be the first to win it with three different clubs. Atletico will also surely advance to the knock-out phase and will pose a big threat to Bavarian side in terms of topping the group and with the odd at 3.00 on them to take the top spot it could be something worthwhile considering. PSV and Rostov will fight for the Europa League spot, and considering Rostov demolishing other Netherlands team Ajax with only caretaker manager that could end up being a very interesting fight.

Group E predictions – This is the group which football fans tend to call the Group of Death. Very interesting group which consists of Leverkusen, Monaco, Tottenham and CSKA. The Russian side is however team that we predict will end their European campaign at this stage. They sold their star striker Musa to Leicester and despite Moscow being a tricky away trip for the opposition they are the weakest team of the group. Leverkusen on the other hand is the best of the rest in Germany after Bayern and Dortmund, very consistent in European competitions in recent years and our favorite for topping the group. The Spurs have very young side with a lack of Champions League experience and we’ll go with them as one of the huge unpleasant group stage surprise and predict a Monaco side will overcome them in the fight for the second place. Their advantage will be easier league fixture which will provide them an opportunity to rise above the bookies expectation and more importantly the Spurs.

Group F predictions – This group proves to be easiest to predict its final outcome. It would be unprofessional not to pick Real Madrid to top this group as Los Blancos will want to have a strong start in this year campaign after already winning European Super Cup. Clear favorite for the second place is German vice-champions Dortmund which did lose Hummels and Mkhitaryan but strengthened the squad with Gotze and Schurrle. Europa League spot is reserved for the Sporting Lisbon and Polish side will be only an observers in this year’s Champions League as they are one of the weakest teams in whole competition.

Group G predictions – This could end up being a very interesting group in terms of attractive football, and football beauty which all football fans of course love. We also decided to refer to it as the Blue group due to the fact that all teams wear blue main jerseys so we advise you to watch as many games as you can because blue color is considered beneficial to the mind and body. Then again we are not your life coaches but your money makers so we advise you to bet on Porto and Leicester advancing from this group. Portuguese side is experienced enough and Foxes will have huge amount of confidence and willingness to show the football world they are not one season wonder. Club Brugge and Copenhagen have equally strong sides and it is hard to predict which side will grab the Europa League sport, however we give slight advantage to the Danish Champions.

Group H predictions – We come to the last but definitely not least interesting group. Juventus, Sevilla, Lyon and Dinamo Zagreb will seek their European glory from this group. We predict Juventus won’t have any trouble topping the group due to the fact Aleggri’s side is surely the strongest one in it. If you remember we picked them as one of the dark horse teams therefore we think none of the other three teams will have a chance against the Old Lady. Sevilla and Lyon will fight for the second place and despite bookies picking the Andaluzian side as favorites we give slight advantage to the rising Lyon side. They managed to overcome Monaco last year in Ligue One, and there are signs of revival in this former French champion. They also managed to keep their star players and Sevilla changed a lot of players but mainly their biggest blow is departure of Unai Emery. Sevilla ended their last season Champions league campaign as 3rd in the group but later won the Europa League which is obviously competition that suits them better. After Juventus, Lyon and Sevilla, unfortunately for their fans side from Croatia’s capital could have one of the worst Champions League campaigns being the second youngest team in the competition and together with Ludogorets the weakest team in it according to the bookies.
